Electric Forest Music Festival Review
I forgot about my phone at Electric Forest...& here's my outcome:
"How could you forget about your phone?!"
"How come you don't have more pictures or videos?!?!"
I went to this music festival called Electric Forest, up in Rothbury, MI. For those of you who are unaware of Electric Forest, it is a 2 weekend, 4-day Camping Music Festival from, June 22nd-June 25th and June 29th- July 2nd. The music varies from EDM to Jam Bands.
Its home for most.
I have gone to EF for the last three years. Of course the first year I went, I was taking pictures and videos of EVERYTHING! The second year, was just as many.
This year was a bit different. I was doing group camping and combined the group I went to EF with the first year, and the group I went with the second year together. Amazing moment right?! To have all of these people you've experienced this place with together again!! I also had my boyfriend with me too, our first Forest together. When arriving EF late Wednesday night, it still didn't hit me that I was there again. It stormed a good portion of that night to the point where the rain and mud really made it feel like I was not there.
Thursday is the start of the festival, even when I entered, I still did not feel like I was there. Of course, it started pouring again that Thursday night, making us go back to the campsite and wait to see if the rain would die down. I was so upset to be missing some artists. Looking at my phone, I realized I had five pictures and one video. I thought, "this totally isn't like me, I usually have more". But that made me realize, I don't need a million photos and videos. People are right when they say "Pictures don't do Justice".
Finally, the rain died down, and I rushed back into the venue for Above & Beyond, that's when it hit me. Everyone around me was just so into the music, the energy, everything. Out of nowhere in the middle of their set, it started pouring. Ironically, they dropped their song "Sun & Moon" and the first lyrics in the song are, "It's raining, It's pouring". Could not have asked for a better moment.
I believe I only touched my phone that weekend to check in with my Family here and there, and take a couple pictures and videos. When I say I took under 60 photos and videos together, I'm serious. And I've never felt more happy with my experience.
When it came to meeting up with the rest of the groups for sets, we made a designated spot and time, it actually worked out!!
I have been so worried about getting all of these cool pictures, videos of the best drops, and capturing every moment to realize, there's nothing that can describe Electric Forest besides experiencing it for yourself.
It is so amazing to see what this place does to others. It's an adventure, eye-opener, safe place, loving community, creative, escape from reality, and home. For once, I forced myself to say "your phone doesn't matter". I have all of these great friends surrounding me, along with amazing artists to see. Nowadays, majority of the world is so caught up in the media and technology, we don't take that extra second in the day to take a step back, put our phone down and look around to realize what is really in front of us. Just letting myself go, dance around, and explore was all I really needed. I almost forgot if I had my phone on me half of the time.
The older I get, the more I realize that I'm missing out on.
Overall, this year at EF, was hands down the best one yet. Being able to really spend time completely away from my phone, was the best decision I could have ever made. I met so many humble, kind, down-to-earth people, really enjoyed the music without feeling obligated to record every second, and just opening myself up to home. I have never felt so much more connected before.
Electric Forest with forever and always hold a special place in my heart. Every bit, piece and corner of that place is filled with excitement, creativity and memories waiting to happen. To the years to come, I am nothing but always overly excited.
To anyone who does read this, forget about your phone for a concert or festival, the outcome and impact is so worth it.
Thanks for reading! <3 #happyforest
